Alec Baldwin has been stealing our hearts on SNL for years, but many people may not know that a debilitating disease has been the stealing his spotlight. Baldwin has been very private about his battle with Lyme disease the last 17years but has recently opened up about his experience with the draining condition to raise awareness.
“The first time was the worst of all,” he recalled. “And I really thought this is it, I’m not going to live. I was alone, I wasn’t married at the time, I was divorced from my first wife. I was lying in bed saying, ‘I’m going to die of Lyme disease,’ in my bed and ‘I hope someone finds me and I’m not here for too long.’ ” Alec Baldwin
Alec Baldwin was the master of ceremonies at the Bay Area Lyme Foundation’s benefit event LymeAid this May. The event featured dinner, a concert and auction to raise money to go directly into much needed Lyme Disease research. Baldwin helped LymeAid raise $850,000 in donations and talked about so of the obstacles facing Lyme disease patents today.
“We need more researchers to help us find a cure, or at least a treatment that works for more people,” Baldwin shared with the crowd, ” Lyme disease is so much more common than the statistics suggest, I have family and friends with Lyme disease in NY, LA and everywhere in between.” -Baldwin
As Baldwin continues to remain more private about his journey with Lyme Disease, he admits that him and his wife regularly check their children for signs of tick bites after seeing just how real Lyme can be.
