Lyme Disease does not discriminate, rich or poor, young or old; it can affect anyone. A number of celebrities have come out to say that they have struggled with Lyme Disease, but very few stay public with it. Avril Lavigne has been a Lyme Warrior for years now, going through the same battle as many of you.

Specialist after specialist, misdiagnosis, being turned away, it seems this is just part of the Lyme culture for patients seeking answers, but that doesn’t mean that there is a dead end at the end of this road. Lavigne has been battling Lyme since she believes spring 2014, but was not given a diagnosis until June of 2015. She went public about her battle with Lyme in 2015 because of her frustration of how the medical system was treating her. Doctors were telling her “Why don’t you just try to get out of bed? Or just go play the piano?” In interviews, she has added that she honestly felt she was dying at many phases throughout this experience.

Today she is still battling Lyme Disease, but improving through continual treatments. She recently has announced that she will be releasing a new album in 2017, her first release since her diagnosis. In Lavigne’s efforts to help people understand Lyme Disease she has started the Avril Lavigne Foundation in efforts to raise awareness for the disease that took over some of the best years of her life.
